Industrial Developments

Regarding Industrial development within the Hastings District, we feel that the Irongate area already under construction is an ideal place for industry expansion as the soils are of lesser quality there. We believe that further expansion for industry growth could move across the expressway towards the Hastings Golf Club area and including the area of Equestrian Lane.

We think it is a real travesty that the HDC allowed the north-eastern side of Omahu Road to be industrialised; this area is covering some of the most fertile soils in the world. This was consented before our "Save the Plains" group was formed, as was the Whakatu zoned industrial area, which is also sitting on some of the best soils in the world. Both these areas were consented without any consideration of the soils beneath them..!! Future planning needs to “Put the Soils First!”
